experienced personal trainer

full time | Geneva, Il

Are you ready to make an impact?

Holm Studio Personal Training is seeking an Experienced Personal Trainer to join its private studio in Geneva, IL. This highly client-facing role will build and manage a durable client roster while delivering individualized, safe, and results-oriented training across one-on-one, dual, and small-group sessions.

The personal trainer will work directly with clients pursuing a wide range of goals, including those managing chronic pain, returning after surgery, or transitioning from physical therapy. The role requires an individual who can establish trusted relationships, complete thoughtful assessments, build programs independently, and create an experience that keeps clients engaged over time.

To thrive in this role, the ideal trainer must also be passionate about client development, individualized program design, hands-on training delivery, and studio stewardship.

What You Will Do

Client Delivery

  • Lead comprehensive client assessments, including goal setting, postural assessment, gait analysis, and full medical and exercise histories.

  • Develop and deliver individualized training programs for every client, with sound judgment around pain, injury, surgery, chronic conditions, and physical limitations.

  • Provide one-on-one, dual, and small-group training sessions for up to four people.

  • Train special populations, including senior, youth, and pre-natal clients, as well as clients managing fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, and other chronic conditions.

  • Maintain consistent client care before and after sessions, and between sessions when it supports progress.

  • Build durable client relationships, including through periods when a client is frustrated or has not yet seen the results they expect.

Client Development

  • Build and maintain an active roster of clients; lead complimentary consultations and introductory sessions for prospective clients.

  • Sell training packages and lead renewal conversations with existing clients.

  • Follow up diligently on studio inquiries, leads, and referrals, while maintaining an accurate schedule and clear availability.

  • Build toward approximately 25 sessions per week by the third month—about ten clients—after adding six or seven clients during the second and third months.

  • Welcome clients who may follow you from a prior role; candidates are encouraged to note this in their application.

Studio Operations

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe training floor.

  • Care for studio equipment and support straightforward opening and closing responsibilities, including lights and locks.

  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to the day-to-day operating standard of the studio.

What You Will Bring

  • At least two years of full-time personal-training experience; five or more years is preferred.

  • A current certification from an accredited certifying agency; NASM and ACSM certifications are preferred.

  • Current CPR and AED certification before the first client session; certification is not required to interview.

  • Personal liability insurance; trainers are also covered under the studio policy.

  • Experience independently managing a client roster, completing assessments, and writing individualized programs.

  • Comfort selling packages, leading renewal conversations, and retaining clients over time.

  • Availability to train in person, including some early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Corrective exercise credentials or experience programming around pain, injury, and physical limitation.

  • Experience with senior, youth, or pre-natal clients, or clients managing chronic conditions.

  • Sports performance experience.

  • A degree in exercise science or a closely related field.

  • An existing client base that may follow you to Holm Studio.

  • Nutrition coaching credentials; the studio offers nutrition coaching for trainers who want to provide it, but it is not required.

  • Sunday availability, while not required, is a plus.

What You Will Receive

To support the transition, Holm Studio Personal Training can provide three to four clients in the first month, equating to six to eight sessions per week. Leads and referrals that require consistent follow-up will also be provided.

  • Full ownership of your programming—no script, no template, and no one rewriting your work.

  • Daily access to an owner with 24 years in the business.

  • Paid administrative time for programming, client follow-up, staff meetings, and studio care.

  • Paid consultations and introductory sessions, whether or not the prospective client signs.

  • Commission on every package you sell, including renewals from your own clients.

  • A private studio with cardio, free weights, and equipment for training athletes.

  • Flexibility in the hours you work.

  • A client base that often stays for years, so your work can build rather than repeatedly start over.

Hours

Prime training time is 6:00 AM to noon and 3:30 PM to 8:30 PM on weekdays. Weekends fill readily from 7:00 AM to noon.

For the next trainer or two, there is meaningful flexibility in selecting those hours and building a schedule around your life. Full schedules, however, tend to be built early and late because that is when most clients can train.

Owner does not train on Sundays, so a trainer who wants to work that day would be a meaningful addition and would allow the studio to be open seven days a week.

Compensation

  • $35 to $45 per one-hour session, depending on experience.

  • Consultations and introductory sessions at half of your session rate, even if the client does not sign.

  • $17 to $25 per hour for non-session work.

  • 5% commission on all package sales, including renewals.

This is a W2 position.
